Lando Norris: Full Biography

Lando Norris is a British racing driver and the 2025 Formula 1 World Champion, who has spent his entire Formula 1 career with McLaren.

The Long Apprenticeship He arrived in 2019 aged nineteen, off the back of titles in Formula Renault and FIA Formula 3 and a runner-up finish in Formula 2. Then came five seasons of podiums without a win, in cars that were rarely the fastest on the grid — 25 rostrum finishes before the top step.

The Breakthrough The win finally came at Miami in 2024, at the 110th attempt, and it broke something open: three more that year, a title fight taken to the wire, and McLaren restored as a front-running team.

Champion The 2025 championship was decided at the final round in Abu Dhabi, where third place was enough to hold off his own teammate Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen. He now races with the number 1.

The Career

Three Chapters That Defined Lando Norris

Chapter 01

The Long Apprenticeship

Norris reached Formula 1 at nineteen having won almost everything on the way up, and then waited. Twenty-five podium finishes came before a single victory. The nearest miss was Sochi in 2021, where he took his first pole, led into the closing laps and lost the win to a rain shower and a tyre call. The years in the midfield built the racecraft that the results did not yet show.

Chapter 02

Miami, at the 110th Attempt

Round six of 2024. Norris ran sixth early, stayed out as others stopped, and a safety car at half distance handed him the lead he had been chasing for five years. He came home 7.612 seconds clear of Max Verstappen — his first win, and McLaren's first in three seasons. Three more followed that year, and a team that had been rebuilding was suddenly fighting for championships.

Chapter 03

The Number 1

The 2025 title went to the last race of the season. Norris arrived in Abu Dhabi leading a three-way fight against his own teammate Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen, and third place was enough — seven wins and 423 points across the year, two clear of Verstappen. He is the first McLaren driver to carry the number 1 since Lewis Hamilton in 2009.
