Kevin Magnussen reveals which team he turned down to stay at Haas in 2019: “It was clearly an option”

Kevin Magnussen, an ex-Formula One driver, reveals the team he turned down in 2019 in order to stay with Haas:“It was clearly an option”

Kevin Magnussen, also known as K-Mag, has raced in Formula One for McLaren, Renault, and Haas. He is currently driving for Chip Ganassi Racing in the 2021 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. In 2019, he could have stayed in F1 if he had chosen a different team on offer instead of Haas.

Magnussen said Toro Rosso had approached him with a seat in an interview with Danish publication B.T on the sidelines of the Bahrain Grand Prix. This comes after Daniel Ricciardo joined Magnussen’s previous team Renault and Pierre Gasly joined Red Bull. The Red Bull family was after K-Mag from Haas as part of the domino effect.

“When we spoke to them, it quickly became clear that they had a candidate for the Red Bull seat. But they mentioned that there would be a vacancy for Toro Rosso. It was not a question of them submitting a contract or the like, but it was clearly an option, ”

“We chose not to pursue the opportunity because I felt really good at Haas and believed that we could continue the positive development we had through 2018.”

Haas had a career-best P5 finish in 2018, giving giants Renault strong competition. As a result, Red Bull chose to hire Toro Rosso’s Alex Albon, who went on to replace Pierre Gasly in the senior team. Albon has recently joined the Red Bull family as a reserve/test driver.
