Kurt Busch will take part in a Next Gen test in Charlotte on Tuesday

On Tuesday, former Cup Series champion Kurt Busch will pilot NASCAR’s first Next Gen test of 2021 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

On Tuesday, NASCAR will conduct its first Next Gen test of 2021 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Kurt Busch will be back in the driver’s seat for a test that will validate some of the Next Gen car’s component changes. Busch is presently a driver for Chip Ganassi Racing and was the 2004 NASCAR Cup Series champion.

Last month, the Next Gen car made its first debut on a superspeedway at Daytona International Speedway, with Roush Fenway Racing driver Chris Buescher logging the prototype’s first laps. In November, Busch and Martin Truex Jr. participated in two days of testing at Charlotte Motor Speedway on the Roval and oval layouts. It was the first time two prototypes were on the track at the same time during that session.

After the Daytona test, NASCAR Senior Vice President of Racing Innovation John Probst indicated that another session at Charlotte could be in the works.

“I think some of the stuff we found in the car is very promising for some of the other tracks we‘re going to take it to,” Probst said. “So if anything, we may try to get on a local track up in the Charlotte area for a couple hours to verify what we found here translates to some other track types.”
