MotoGP, Marc Marquez says: “Step By Step We Are Getting Stronger”

Repsol Honda Team primed for French GP

Marc Marquez and Pol Espargaro arrive ready and rested following a grueling Spanish GP for Round 5, presenting another weekend of opportunities for the Repsol Honda Team.

The fifth round of the 2021 MotoGP World Championship will be held at the Le Mans circuit in France. The French track, which is most known for hosting the 24-hour race, has been a happy hunting ground for the Repsol Honda Team in recent years. Marc Marquez won his first back-to-back wins of the season in 2019, becoming Honda’s 300th premier class winner. Then, in 2020, rookie Alex Marquez won his first MotoGP podium in Repsol Honda Team colors with a masterful wet-weather effort.

Marc Marquez’s return to Jerez was a positive one in general, as he reduced the distance to the race victor following a difficult weekend. As his recovery and return to competition progresses, Marquez’s major goal for the weekend is to maintain his recent trend of closing the distance to the front. Marquez has four podium finishes, including three victories, in his previous visits to Le Mans.

Pol Espargaro returns to France with a better understanding of the Repsol Honda RC213V following a busy but productive one-day test in Jerez. The 2013 Moto2 World Champion improved his overall feel of his Honda by working through a variety of options throughout Monday. With five top ten finishes and a podium from seven visits to the Le Mans circuit, Espargaro has had some of his most consistent results in the premier class. With the weather being such an unpredictable factor in Le Mans, Espargaro’s first chance to race on the Honda in the rain could come in round five.

Free Practice 1 for the MotoGP class begins at 09:55 local time on Friday, May 14 at the French GP. On Sunday, May 16, the 27-lap premier class Grand Prix on the 4.2-kilometer-long circuit will begin at 14:00 local time. Rain is expected throughout the weekend in France, but it will not dampen the Repsol Honda Team’s spirits.

Marc Marquez

“It has been a good week between races, I have been able to rest and continue my training and recovery. The goal for this weekend is to have less complications and continue working to improve. Step by step we are getting stronger and our goal is to continue the progress we have been making. The weather in Le Mans can always make things a little bit tricky but we will handle whatever happens.”

Pol Espargaro

“The test we had on Monday was very helpful for me and the team, we tried many things and were able to understand more about the Honda. Last year we were able to finish on the podium in the wet at Le Mans, of course we would prefer it to be dry this weekend but the weather will be the same for everyone and it will give me an opportunity to try this bike in new conditions. The motivation is as high as always, I’m excited for another weekend.”
