“Pierre Gasly’s podium leaves me speechless”

The ability of Pierre Gasly to rise above himself and the AlphaTauri level this year has not gone unnoticed. Gasly’s performance at Red Bull’s sister team has been great, and he almost always scores solid points for his team, as it did last year. He was on the podium in Baku last weekend, in fact.

They are, of course, pleased with the Frenchman at AlphaTauri. Engineer Chris Wright of the Note AlphaTauri Power Unit appreciates the young driver’s performance in a Honda blog post. It demonstrates how well Gasly is getting along with the Italian racing stable’s staff. “Pierre led the third free practice session and was fourth in qualifying. In a turbulent race, he kept fighting until the end. He also had a problem with the power unit so we were even happier with his third place.”

He also sees a decent battle developing with Charles LeClerc, whom he has already met on the track a few times this season.“His fierce battle with good friend Charles Leclerc in the last two laps of the race was definitely a highlight for me.”

Performance AlphaTauri

But Gasly isn’t the only one who gets credit in Wright’s blog. Yuki Tsunoda, a rookie, had his finest Grand Prix to date in Baku over the weekend. “Looking at AlphaTauri’s performance this year, I think this feels like a win. Pierre’s podium makes me speechless and also I am proud that Yuki Tsunoda finished within the points.”

In the constructors’ championship, AlphaTauri is unlikely to overtake Ferrari and McLaren, but fifth place should be within reach for Frans Tost and his team this year. So far, AlphaTauri has had a successful season.
